Prime Minister of Grenada, Dr. Keith Mitchell, on behalf of the government, has expressed heartfelt thanks and appreciation to all Grenadians, at home and abroad, for their wonderful support and contribution in making our 34 th Independence celebrations a resounding success.

“Our nation is growing from strength to strength. More and more, as a people, we are justifying the responsibilities of nationhood thrust upon us 34 years ago”, the Prime Minister said, speaking from his office in the capital, St. George’s, this morning.

The Prime Minister noted that he had observed from coast to coast throughout the country a determination and willingness to “put country first above self”. This he said, is the basis for achieving greatness as a nation, no matter our size, and that when coupled with the prevailing reality in the country of peace, stability and progress, we can become a world “super power” in decency and the good society.

“This year’s Independence celebrations, perhaps more than any before it, really stands out”, Dr. Mitchell reflected.  “It clearly demonstrates that we have it within us as a people, to seriously unite around the issues and principles that really matter. It  shows that no matter our differences, we can work together as a people to achieving important goals, set high standards, build consensus and really roll up our sleeves in the struggle to build a prosperous nation and shape a quality society for our children and the generations to come”.

“I think we are justified in naming what is emerging in Grenada today, Progress, and in calling on our people, no matter their political stripe, not to divert from it”, said Dr. Mitchell, Grenada’s 6 th Prime Minister since Independence in 1974.
