The Carriacou Carnival Development Committee headed by Christopher “Ken” Joseph along with calypsonians and mas bands is hard at work to ensure that this year’s festival will be one to remember, they have been staging a number of successful pre-carnival activities to build the momentum. According to the chairman with government pledging a monetary support of $20,000, $12,500 more than the usual $7500 and other sponsors like Digicel & Grenada Breweries the festival will be a success.
The committee is promising a dimarche gras show with a difference with the return of a number of top calypsonians namely Christopher “Danjuma” Mills and Anthony “Sugar Patch” Douglas and on the night there will be camboulay cooking at the Hillsborough Tennis Court.
This year there will be a queen show and the six participants have already received the committee’s contribution to assist with preparation. However the support of the public is critical, Joseph therefore asks that the public join with them to make carnival great in 2008.
Carriacou carnival starts on Friday February 1 st with the soca monarch finals and ends on Tuesday February 5 th.
