Independence is a time to showcase national pride and indeed this was shown by schools and community groups across Carriacou & Petite Martinique when they participated in an independence beautification competition as Grenada celebrates 34 years as an independent nation.
And for a second year the Harvey vale Government School won the competition in the primary school category, second place went to Hillsborough Government while Petite Martinique placed third.
L’Esterre South Striders copped the first prize among the community groups who participated, they were followed by Petite Martinique Youth Group and Belair Progressive Youth Group came third.
Bishop’s College received a prize for outstanding participation as the other secondary school Hillsborough Secondary is undergoing renovations. The beautification was done under the theme: promoting stability for continued progress and prosperity.
Another activity held in celebration was the Mr. & Ms. Independence Show and the parish of St. David’s dominated, they won in both the male and female category. Shanta Ross of Promme Rose R.C won the title of Ms. Independence while Joachim Mark of St.Joseph’s R.C is Mr. Independence. L’Esterre R.C School took the second position in both categories in the persons of Chelsea Leggard and Denzel Fleary. |
