The students of the Petite Martinique R.C School along with residents of the 400 acres island turned out in large numbers in a show of patriotism when the island held its rally on January 30 th in observance of Grenada’s 34 th anniversary of independence.
Accompanied by the Royal Grenada Police Force Band, they marched from the school to the police station and back before listening to speeches from Minister Elvin Nimrod and Governor General Sir Daniel Williams who for the past few years have made it is duty to attend.
In his remarks Minister Nimrod said tribute must be paid to the persons who have contributed to the country’s development over the past 34 years while Governor General Sir Daniel Williams complimented the staff of the PM RC School for smartly dressing the children in outfits made in the national colours and also said that Grenada needs to find a way of becoming more independent internally.
Also forming part of the ceremony was the presentation of awards by Lady Gloria Williams. Shiann Ollivierre received two awards for outstanding work in academics and sports, Nieron Clement for outstanding work in sports while Rural Constable Phillip George for the most outstanding police officer on the island.
