The change of venue and time for the Carriacou Independence celebrations did not affect the level of participation as many turned out to witness the event held at the Lauriston Mini-stadium, it was the first major event to take place there since work was completed by the Chinese.

Noted among the marchers for the first time were a number of imani trainees and the event was indeed filled with excitement as the drum corp. made up of students from the two secondary schools along with the Royal Grenada Police Force Band put on a magnificent display.

Minister Elvin Nimrod who also read the Prime Minister’s message said independence is a time to reflet on the challenges encountered and the progress the country has made and in his remarks Governor General Sir Daniel Williams said in order for a country to develop education of its nationals in every way should be top priority.

A special award was given to Minister Elvin Nimrod by the celebrations committee in recognition of his hard work and dedication to the development of Carriacou & Petite Martinique over the past twelve years.
