Opposition leader Dr Keith Mitchell is calling for the resignation of Director of Public Prosecutions Christopher Nelson in the wake of the detention of his former legal advisor, Hugh Wildman.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference called by the main opposition, New National Party (NNP) at the party's headquarters at Mt Helicon on Tuesday, Mitchell said that he does not have any confidence in the DPP who has shown over the years that he is a politician person.

"I have absolutely no confidence in him. I believe that the country have no confidence in him and I believe if he understands what ....the Director of Public Prosecutions job is all about, he will know that his uttering on television and radio is unacceptable for (the) position of Director of Public Prosecution", he said.

"That said I think he is better known as Director of Political Prosecutions, that is the better definition of the DPP", her added. Mitchell was making reference to Nelson's statement that he had instructed the police to question Wildman in connection with new information that had surfaced in connection with his involvement in the scandal surrounding the collapse of First International Bank of Grenada (FIBG).

According to Dr. Mitchell, the uttering of DPP Nelson in the media over the past few days on the issue were"unacceptable" and as such he should resign from the post.

He warned that if Nelson failed to resign then he would write to the Chief Justice of the OECS court and the Judicial and Legal Service Commission (JLSC) to take steps to effect his removal from the office of DPP. He stated that Nelson, an experienced legal practitioner, had crossed the line in every sense of the word and is no longer fit and fitting to hold the high office.

Like ex-Prime Minister Mitchell, former Attorney General and Minister of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs, Elvin Nimrod called for the head of DPP Nelson. Nimrod attempted to chide Nelson for what he said was his clear attempt to try and destroy and demean Wildman's lawyer, Senator Dwight Horsford who is also an executive member of NNP.

He took issue with the DPP's statement in which he said that he felt sorry for Horsford who was being used as a political tool in the Wildman detention issue.

Nimrod claimed that in the past, DPP Nelson had shown disrespect to him as a government minister on several occasions. He called on the DPP to be more sober in his deliberations since he is supposed to represent all the people and avoid making public"political" statements.

Nimrod also alleged that Wildman is being used as a pretext to other things by the authorities and it is widely believed that he himself will be next in line for interrogation by the police, followed by Dr. Mitchell himself.
