Outspoken attorney-at-law, Anslem Clouden, has charged that some persons on the island have been trying to engage in a massive cover-up to protect their interest in the financially-plagued Capital Bank International.
Speaking to reporters last week Wednesday, Clouden who represents more than 20 depositors of the bank, said that some people are bent on a cover up and a suppression of the report prepared by the court-appointed Receiver.
In a fiery statement, the lawyer said that Chief Executive Officer of CapBank and Native Hut, Finton DeBourg, has been acting in a manner inconsistent with the law of the land and fraudulently converted monies of depositors and should be dealt with by law enforcement officials.
Clouden is confident that time is running out for De Bourg and it is only a matter of time before criminal charges are brought against him and others who took part in "this fraudulent conversion of depositors funds".
The Keith Mitchell-led government in the face of constant complaints from the public about not being able to access their funds at the bank moved to get the high court to bring the bank into Receivership.
According to Clouden, there are signs that the current New National Party (NNP) administration is trying to wriggle its way out of the situation by announcing that it was seeking to find a strategic partner to salvage the bank.
However, he said that any attempt at salvaging what remains of the Bank at this 99th hour will only put depositors monies in further jeopardy.
He said that there is no way out of the predicament but to appoint a liquidator such as accountant, Garvey Louison to look after the depositor's interest.
Before the court-sanctioned takeover of Capbank, the law firm of Governor General Sir Daniel Williams was known to be used to help clear cheques for the financially-strapped financial institution.
Clouden also touched on an application that he made to the Court to have a liquidator appointed to look after the interest of his clients with known accounts at the bank.
He pointed out that the court has not responded to his application and as such a letter was sent to Registrar of the Supreme Court, Robert Branch soliciting a response in order to
have the petition sent to a high court judge for consideration.
Clouden is adamant that a deliberate attempt is being made by all those concerned in the Capbank fiasco to suppress the receiver's report.
"We need as a matter of pressing urgency to know the content of that preliminary report and the final report handed in by the Receiver at the end of his appointment", he said.
Clouden suggested that something needs to be done right now to protect the monies of thousands of Grenadians and not allow another First International Bank of Grenada (FIBG) fiasco to occur in Grenada.
This is reference to the collapse of a major player in the offshore banking institution when the operators of the bank fled with millions of dollars of depositors monies about six years ago.
Several of the crooks mainly from the United States have since received prison sentences for their crimes.
According to Clouden, his clients need their monies from Capbank in order to get on with their lives.
He made reference to Grenada's current economic woes and the hardships presently faced by the people by alluding to government's implementation of a food basket programme to help the poor and needy.
Clouden also warned the Mitchell government about allowing De Bourg to return as CEO of CapBank and Native Hut without the public knowing the status of their monies at the Bank.
He called on Prime Minister Mitchell to bring an end to the coverup of the Capbank fiasco and come clean with the Grenadian people and inform them abut their hard earned monies.
