Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell has expressed serious concern over the
recent tragic incidents which have led to four persons losing their lives on the island.
Speaking from his office in the Botanical Gardens, St. George's, the Prime Minister reflected on the deaths and said that he was worried about the impact these incidents were having on the community.
"I have been thinking about the mothers and fathers, wives and children who have been affected by these incidents", said Dr. Mitchell.
"I have also been thinking about the impact these murders have been having on the wider community", he added.
Noting that Grenada is normally a peaceful place, the Prime Minister observed that citizens have grown accustomed "to a very high level of peace and safety especially within the last decade".
"I know that these very unfortunate occurrences have shaken the entire Grenadian community. I therefore call for us all to pray for a stop to this violent behaviour and for a return to the peace and safety which we are accustomed to", he said.
"I also call for a special prayer for our young men so that they will have more patience in dealing with conflicts," he remarked.
Prime Minister Mitchell announced he had asked the Minister of Ecclesiastical Affairs, Senator Ann David-Antoine to convene a special meeting of all churches and faith-based organisations to discuss the problem and to look for solutions.
"I firmly believe that we have to work together with our religious community to effectively confront these problems", he said.
"We are all being affected by this and therefore we must take a broad and multi faceted approach. We have done this successfully in the past on other very important matters and I have every confidence that our discussions will be successful," he added.
