The Caribbean Knowledge and Learning Network (CKLN) has once again come to the assistance of T.A. Marryshow Community College (TAMCC) by providing it with a gift of 20 computers.
In January, the college was the recipient of three notebooks and UPS system, along with a moodle development server valued at US $8,000.00. The latest gift of computers, valued at $23,754.00, is to enhance TAMCC's open and distance learning network.
The computers were presented by CKLN's Project Manager, Candia Alleyne to Acting Principal of the college, Dr. Jeffrey Britton who in accepting the gift underscored the importance of open and distance learning education and allows education to break out of the "iron triangle" that has constrained it throughout history.
"That iron triangle is made out of the vectors of access, quality and cost," he said. According to Britton, there is solid evidence that the appropriate use of open and distance learning allows increased access, improved quality and cut cost.
"This is the education revolution. This is the beginning of a new thrust for the expanded dissemination of knowledge and the development of critical skills for nation building," he said.
Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell who witnessed the presentation called for a reform of the educational processes to make access to learning much easier.
He said the incorporation of technology into the education delivery service is the remedy to make it a reality. Dr. Mitchell pointed out that in Grenada and across the region there is an increasing demand for tertiary education which is mixed with the constraints of the shortage of physical human and physical resources.
TAMCC's Registrar, Nigel Gravesande welcomed the additional contribution that was provided by CKLN, adding that the contribution affords the college the opportunity to connect with people who they are not yet able to reach.
The gift of computers was made possible by the European Union.
