The Computer Store at Grand Anse, St. George¹s has continued to pump money into the coffers of the Roxborough Roman Catholic Church to help with its rebuilding project.
The church which is located at St. Paul¹s, St. George¹s was severely damaged during the passage of Hurricane Ivan in 2004, and still remains in shatters.
Three years ago, the Computer Store decided to contribute annually to the rebuilding project the profits generated from its community-sponsored basketball competition in Grand Anse.
Last week owner/manager of the Computer Store, George Blaize presented the sum of $10,000.00 to the pastor of the church, Fr. Clifton Harris.
The same sum of money was presented for the first two years.
³Because of (Hurricane) Ivan and the problem with the church we decided whatever proceeds that we make, whatever is collected, we give to the St. Paul¹s Catholic Church to help with the rebuilding effort,² Blaize said.
The Computer Store Manager found it difficult in saying why his business outlet has decided to come to the aid of the St. Paul¹s Catholic Church. The most he had to say is that Fr. Harris is a keen basketballer, and is someone who is always there to offer the invocation at the start of the games.
The Jamaican-born clergyman outlined to GRENADA TODAY the stage in which he is at in having the rebuilding project commence.
According to him, the rubble is already being cleared and it is hoped that by August, work on the foundation can begin.
The cost of the project is estimated to be just over one million dollars.
Fr. Harris said that at present he already has $350,000.00 for the project. He said this year¹s harvest which takes place on October 25 is targeting to add another $50,000.00 to the coffers.
The Roxborough Church is the local base for the Dominican Religious Body, and according to Fr. Harris, the Dominican Fathers is England have committed $20,000 pounds sterling to start the project.
³We will start (the project) with what we have and if needs be we will take out a loan,² the priest said.
