A plaque depicting the Grenada Newsletter of the late Alistair Hughes, one of Grenada's best known journalist, has been unveiled in St. George's.

It was brought into the island by Margaret Hughes, the Irish-born wife of Hughes who died three years ago.

The plaque is located on Scott Street at the entrance of the house where Hughes had lived for many years with his first wife, Cytnthia and produced the Grenada Newsletter. The house is currently owned by St. George's businessman, Andrew Bierzynski.

The Grenada Newsletter was first started by Alistair and Cynthia Hughes in 1972 and continued for the next 22 years until its closure in 1994.

The publication was produced on a small stencil-operated machine, a technology that has become out-dated given today's advances in the computer age.

The Grenada Newsletter focused on most of the developments in Grenada including extensive coverage of events in the Spice Isle under successive government headed by former Prime Ministers, Eric Gairy and Maurice Bishop.

Hughes is a decorated journalist gaining several regional and international awards and was given an Honorary Doctorate from the University of the West Indies (UWI) for his contribution to journalism in Grenada over the years.
