Commissioner of Police, James Clarkson says it will not be business as usual in the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF). Clarkson was recently appointed as the island's top COP, replacing Winston James who retired at the end of July after serving RGPF for 40 years.

The new Police Commissioner confirmed that there will indeed be changes within force in the coming weeks but declined to give details.

In speaking to the local media, Clarskson said that he needed to inform his officers about the upcoming changes before making the announcement to the wider public.

Clarkson was expected to address his senior ranks about the changes last week Thursday, and the general membership this past Tuesday.

"I would like to tell them what I am doing. I don't want them to get caught, oh, this thing is happening. No! I want to tell you that if there is going to be changes, this is how I am changing it," he said.

The top COP promised the media that he will inform them at the appropriate time about things that will be done in RGPF.

"We are not going to hide anything from you (the media), that is what I am going to do. And you might hear some people say that oh, it is victimisation, but what I would say, it is not victimisation, it is reorganisation," he said.

The Commissioner confirmed that Inspector Brian Hurst has been brought back to lead the RGPF music Band as part of the re-organisation.

Bandmaster Hurst back

Hurst resumed the leadership of the band on August 18 after being transferred last year to the South St. George Police Station over the incident of the band playing the wrong anthem at the handing over ceremony of the Grenada National Stadium that was rebuilt by the People's Republic of China.

An investigation over the diplomatic blunder cleared Hurst of any wrong doing. A second inquiry was launched by the previous Keith Mitchell-led administration but nothing further was heard about it.

Clarkson described Hurst as "a very good musician", adding that he felt that the policeman/musician was placed at a disservice.

"The first thing I did, being back in the Force, was to correct that. And the other things in the Force that need correcting, will be corrected," he said.
