They had the crowd in a frenzy as the dynamic duo, Luni Sparks and Electrify, stole the hearts of the judges to successfully retain their crown for the second consecutive year.

The two sons of Grenada's former Calypso Queen, Cynthia "Lady Cynthy" Ogiste defeated a line up of 17 challengers to re-capture the coveted title for yet another year with a total of 406 points. The Soca Monarch competition took place last week Friday night at "Carnival City" - National Stadium before thousands of crazed soca fans who jumped, waved, gyrated and screamed to the sounds of the pulsating rhythms of the best soca artistes in Grenada for 2008.

By the end of the duo's performance to their song "Clear de Way" there was no doubt that the defending monarchs were returning to their parish with their heads held high. The win automatically guaranteed the Ogiste brothers a spot in the International soca monarch competition to be held in Trinidad on February 20, 2009.

The artistes did not only take the coveted title but also the hefty sum of $30,000.00 that goes with it. The Monarchs were confident from the get go that they will successfully retain their crown with their song which since its release has been blazing the airways.

The due promise to take their music to a much higher level both regionally and internationally and to put on a bumper show in Trinidad as they strive to bring home the international acclaimed title back to their homeland. The dynamic duo was closely followed by the 2004 Soca Monarch, Hollis "Mr Killa" Mapp with 204 points.

On the heels of "Mr Killa" was newcomer to the soca arena, "Mr Legs", a student of St Andrew's Anglican Secondary School (SAASS). His point standing is still unknown.
