Up to the time of going to press on Tuesday, reigning Calypso Monarch, Finley Jeffrey, Scholar remained uncertain about participating in the calypso finals competition.
The calypso finals form part of the Dimanche Gras Show which takes place at the Grenada National Stadium on Sunday.
Since early in the year Scholar had given notice that he will not be involved in competition this year.
Speaking to GRENADA TODAY, the reigning National Calypso Monarch said he still does not know if he will be defending the title."I am still undecided," he said.
Scholar who appeared to have been speaking under pressure said he has songs with which he can defend the title, but at this time does not even know them."I can't even learn my songs. I don't even know them," he said.
Two women are among nine calypsonians who have been chosen to compete for the Calypso Monarch Title. They are Arlene Joseph and Sister Lee who are seeking to walk away with the title.
Cynthia Ogiste - Lady Cynthy, and Akima Paul are the only two women who have so far won the National Calypso Monarch.
The other finalists are Sour Serpent, Croquetta, Teacher Eddie, Bico, Rico, Squeezy, and Papa Jerry. The standby is Mr. X.
Should Scholar decide not to defend his three consecutive monarch title, it will be a first for any of the others competing to be crowned as Calypso Monarch.
