Medical doctor, Terrence Marryshow has resigned from the People's Labour Movement (PLM).
This was confirmed by Political Leader, Dr. Francis Alexis who announced that Dr. Marryshow also quit his post of party Chairman.
In a statement issued, Dr. Alexis, said that Marryshow's resignation follows a call he made on his fellow executive member to reflect on the implications of a certain newspaper article he wrote on the outcome of the recent re sentencing of the Bernard Coard Gang of Prisoners.
That article raised questions on whether the sentences handed down last June by high court judge, Justice Francis Belle in the Maurice Bishop re sentencing proceedings derived from a "big set-up".
Marryshow is a pro-Bishop supporter and sworn enemy of the Coard Gang that is held responsible for the collapse of the 1979-83 Grenada Revolution, the first marxist government experiment in the English-speaking Caribbean.
Bishop was executed on October 19, 1983 at Fort Rupert by a hardline faction within the then ruling New Jewel Movement (NJM) that created the People's Revolutionary Government (PRG) after it seized power in 1979 from the elected Eric Gairy government.
According to Dr. Alexis who is a noted constitutional lawyer, one is certainly entitled "in a proper case to criticise the judgment of a court as being wrong".
However, he was quick to point out that "unjustifiably implying that a decision of a court is the product of a big set-up is to unfoundedly involve a court in obstructing justice, and this is wholly unacceptable".
Dr. Alexis noted that rather than retract his article, Dr. Marryshow opted to resign which the PLM leader sees as the "democratic right" of his party chairman.
He wished Dr. Marryshow the best in his future endeavors.
Dr. Marryshow is the second high profile person to quit PLM in recent months.
The first is small businessman Dorset Charles who left the party to reactivate The National Party (TNP) that was formed in 1989 by late Prime Minister, Herbert Blaize.
