Common Entrance examination is expected to become a thing of the past under a National Democratic Congress (NDC) Government.
This was one of the major announcements made on Saturday night by NDC's Political Leader, Tillman Thomas as he presented his party's vision for Grenada's future development once elected into office in the upcoming general elections.
Thomas said the Common Entrance exam which caters for primary school students from ages 11 to 13-years will be replaced by a continuous assessment of selecting children to attend secondary school according to their aptitude.
He disclosed that under an NDC administration, the curriculum of secondary schools will be revised to include life, ethics, civics, technical and technological education, agriculture and cultural activities which include music, art and drama.
Thomas feared that the future of the young people in Grenada will become disturbing and unpredictable unless they are prepared to act responsibly.
He said the NDC will resolve to ensure that the young people are shaped by the right values and influences.
"The NDC is committed to the purposeful engagement of the youth in a positive environment so that their talents and energies could advance greater social goals," he told a large gathering at Grenada Grand Beach Resort.
The NDC Political Leader spoke of the areas in which his party will seek to protect the nation's children.
He said that Congress will draw heavily from the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child in order to protect the rights of children and foster responsibility among them.
In addition, support systems which include the family, school, church, and the community will be strengthened for the wholesome development of children and young people.
Thomas is confident that the support systems will guarantee all children and young people access to a decent education that will prepare them for happy and productive lives.
He added that the support system to be implemented will provide early childhood education, introduce social skills, a foreign language, health and family life education from the primary school level.
The NDC is seeking to replace the Keith Mitchell-led New National Party (NNP) which has been in office since mid-1995.
