The National Executive Council of the Grenada United Labour Party met in special session on Monday 15, October 2007 and took the decision to expel former Political Leader Gloria Payne-Banfield for conduct damaging to the party.
At a meeting held September 14, 2007 the Executive Council debated the expulsion of Payne-Banfield for continuing to claim that she is the political leader but postponed taking action against the former leader.
On Wednesday, 10, October, Payne-Banfield held a press conference at which she introduced former deputy political leader of PLM, Bernard Jones, whom she said had joined the Grenada United Labour Party. The Executive Council points out that Payne-Banfield is an ordinary member of the GULP and has no authority to make anyone a member of the party. The procedure for becoming a member of the party was upheld by Payne-Banfield when she signed a membership Application Form on the 22 April, 2007.
After four and a half years of Payne-Banfield leadership, the GULP held a Convention on June 10, 2007 at Sam's Inn Dunfermline and elected new leadership. Payne-Banfield failed to contest.
