The People's Labour Movement (PLM) of former Attorney General, Dr. Francis Alexis has been rocked two more resignations from its ranks. The latest two to quit are deputy political leader, Bernard Jones and fellow executive member, Shurland Bullen.

Just recently two high profile members of the party of the party resigned - former candidate in the 2003 general elections, small businessman, Dorset Charles, and medical doctor, Terrence Marryshow who held the post of party chairman.

Charles resigned on the grounds of the inconsistency of the political leader in organising party meetings. He has since been making attempts to reactivate The National Party (TNP) that was formed in 1989 by late Prime Minister Herbert Blaize. However, Dr. Marryshow's resignation stemmed from a call made on him by Dr. Alexis to retract a newspaper article headlined, "Big set-up."

In that article Dr. Marryshow criticized the sentences handed down earlier this year by Justice Francis Belle in the re-sentencing of those found guilty of the execution style of death of Revolutionary Prime Minister, Maurice Bishop and others on October 19, 1983 on Fort George.

Jones and Bullen who announced their resignations to the media last week Thursday, hours before informing their political leader, hinted that two other members have also resigned from the movement. Both Jones and Bullen said that they have decided to  resign from the party in solidarity with Dr. Marryshow.

Jones who has been associated with the PLM for the past four years indicated that Dr. Marryshow's article bore no kingship to the PLM's official position."That should have been expressed. But to throw Terry (Dr. Marryshow) to the wolves and to virtually disown him after all those years of fraternal bonding is not acceptable," the former PLM deputy political leader said.

Jones who is a newspaper publisher spoke about the need for the protection of an individual right to free expression.   He said he was particularly concerned about the attempts made by his former political leader in trying to hamper Dr. Marryshow from expressing himself.

"I will defend anybody in this country who ends up in a similar position as Terry," he pledged. The newspaper publisher said he is looking forward to the day when local journalists can do their work in peace.

Jones was at pains to declare his political future. However, he indicated that he is "a man of labour," but stopped short of saying if he will be aligned himself to the Grenada United Labour Party (GULP), the oldest political grouping on the island or any of the existing parties.

"I am a Grenadian. I feel a number of things that are negative and positive for Grenada and Grenadians, and my advocacy will continue..."My resignation will not stop me from participating in the political life or process of the people and the country.

"My thinking is that I must divorce myself from (the) present situation and take a little rest. In reacting to the development within the party, Dr. Alexis said that he planned to recruit new bloody to take the movement forward.

The internal rumblings with PLM comes with the island less than 14 months away from fresh general elections.
