His Excellency Sir Daniel Williams, GCMG, QC
Governor General,
Governor General House,
GRENADA
March 29, 2007
Your Excellency,
We refer to the Commission of Inquiry in what has been generally referred to as the Briefcase Issue involving accusations against our Head of Government.
The Eastern Caribbean Appeals Court met Wednesday March 28, 2007 to deliberate on the appeal to an earlier ruling that gave my office the right to appoint a legal counsel to be able to cross examine witnesses coming before the Commission.
The appeal court judges have deferred hearing the appeal by Commissioner Richard Cheltenham against the earlier ruling.
The judges said that in order to hear the appeal, the life of the commission should be extended.
The Appeal Court judges have said that once the life of the inquiry is extended they will be willing to hear the case as a matter or urgency in any country of the Eastern Caribbean where they are sitting at the time.
Against this background, and as a further follow up reference to your letter reference C27 dated January 15, 2007, we once again humbly submit to your high office that you kindly consider extending the life of the commission.
You had intimated in the earlier correspondence that you will have no difficulty in extending the time for the continuation of the inquiry, and you said then This I can do in short time.

Leader of the Opposition
