A St. Andrew's man has been charged with murder following the death of a two-year old baby boy of Mt. Gay, St. George's.
Charged for the offence is Rondell Mahon, the step father of the youngster, Aaron Fletcher.
Mahon made his first court appearance on Monday before Chief Magistrate, Patricia Mark.
According to police sources, the incident occurred at Mt. Gay, St. George's where young Aaron was staying with his mother.
A source who asked not to be named said that a post-mortem conducted on Aaron's body indicated that he died as a result of a wound inflicted in the area of the stomach.
He said the lawmen were forced to carry out a criminal investigation of the circumstances of the death based on the "medical examination" that was conducted by a foreign pathologist.
Speculation is rife that the police were initially told that Aaron had died from drowning at home.
But the autopsy revealed a lack of water in the lungs which arose the suspicion of police investigators.
Mahon reportedly got involved in a love relationship with the mother of the child shortly after she ended a love affair with the paternal father.
Most residents in the area considered him to be the father of young Aaron.
