Staff at the Ministry of Health are growing impatient with what they say is the unbearable conditions under which they are forced to work.
Several employees have reported to Grenada Today that they are forced to wear what amounts to winter clothing to work in order to face the very cold conditions at the office.
The air-conditioning units on at least two floors on the compound are said to be malfunctioning.
One individual who wished not to be named said that employees clothed in socks, scarves, leather coats, gloves and hats have become a normal sight at the department.
The employee said that the coldness is so severe that despite the extra heavy clothing worn by employees the chilly coldness remains a problem for most of them.
GRENADA TODAY understands that the problems at the Ministry of Health started last year when the ac units started to malfunction and the offices becamne too hot and unbearable for workers.
The source said that a decision was taken by management to allow the workers to leave at 1:00 p.m on a daily basis instead of the regular 4.00 p.m.
The problem should have been solved two weeks ago when replacement units were brought into the compound.
But to the amazement of the employees the rooms were not regulated properly with the cold air getting colder each and every passing minute.
Public Relations Officer in the Ministry of Health, Keville Frederick, on Tuesday told Grenada Today that the Ministry is aware of the issue and was taking every possible step to accommodate the employees.
He said that the matter is being looked into with a view to finding ways to rectify the problem within the coming weeks.
Frederick stated that some of the employees in the ministry of Health are somehow coping with the very cold conditions within the building while others are not.
As a result, The Ministry of Health has again taking the decision to end work at 1:30 p.m until the problem is solved.
