Grenada's Rosemarie Charles has been elected to serve on the executive body of the umbrella body in the region for Spa association.
The new body was elected at the 3rd annual Caribbean Health Tourism & Spa Symposium held recently at the Jamaica Hilton under the theme, "Uniting the Caribbean Health Tourism Market".
Charles, a post-graduate Aesthetician and Certified product formulator, was officially appointed to the leadership Council of the regional Spa associations after having served as Chairperson of the CSWA training Committee 2006 2007.
This coalition leadership council will serve as the governing body given the responsibility to regulate the Caribbean's Spa and Wellness Industry areas of Training, Product Development and Marketing as well as serve as the advisory body and liaison between governments of the region and the industry.
During the Jamaica session, individual presentations and round table sessions dealt with issues such as standardisation and accreditation of Caribbean Health & Spa Tourism Sector, integrating indigenous Healers into the Health Tourism Domain,
and financial institutions marketing to the Health & Spa Tourism sector.
The participants also addressed the topic of how to Market Caribbean Health Tourism Overseas, Health Tourism Domain Integration, Health Tourism Education & Training, and the use of natural foods in treatment modalities.
The symposium was attended by delegates from Jamaica, St. Lucia, Barbados, Trinidad & Tobago, Grenada, Dominica, Belize, the United States, Canada and Europe.
It was followed by the Centre For Development of Enterprise, Brussels funded Road mapping conference for the Caribbean Spa and Wellness Industry organised by Caribbean Export & Dr. Denzil Phillips of Denzil Phillip's International UK ltd.
The symposium presented opportunities for intimate interactions between the delegates themselves and networking opportunities with the health tourism experts.
Among the keynote speakers was Ambassador Dr. Richard Bernel, Director General of the Caribbean Regional Negotiating Machinery (RNM) who focused his attention on globalisation and how this impacts the offering and consumption of health-related services.
