Dear Dr. Ishmael,
Please accept my very best wishes.
The Leader of Her Majesty¹s Opposition, Hon. Tillman Thomas brings to your attention an unacceptable development concerning and involving invitations to the Parliament Senators in the Upper House.
Our concerns stem from the fact that at the Opening Ceremony of the 45th Meeting of the OECS Authority, no Opposition Parliamentarian in the House of Representatives other than the Leader of Her Majesty¹s Opposition, Hon. Tillman Thomas was invited to attend.
Additionally not a single Senator amongst those appointed by the Hon. Tillman Thomas and the Independent Senators were invited to the activity.
The Parliamentary Opposition takes a dim view of this development since such an activity ought not to be the subject of partisan politics.
We also hold the view that the actions on the part of the Government of Grenada were disrespectful to our Parliament, particularly as the majority of the local invitees were known local New National Party activists while Opposition and Independent Parliamentarians were ignored.
This insult assumes even greater importance in the context of discussions now underway to set up a parliamentary mechanism of the OECS intended to heighten the participation of democratically elected Leaders from the Parliament of the OECS. It is definitely an affront to this noble objective.
Please accept assurances of the Opposition Leaders¹ highest consideration.
Yours respectfully,
Mr Tillman Thomas (Hon. M.P.)
Leader of Her Majesty¹s Opposition
