Police have detained the three "gangsters" allegedly involved in a revenge stabbing incident over the weekend in which one man lost his life.
Dead is 25 year-old Rennie St. John of Grand Anse, St. George's who was residing at Jean Anglais with his girl friend, Veronica Walker.
According to reports reaching GRENADA TODAY, St John suffered from several chop wounds and also the loss of one hand following an altercation last week Saturday night at around 9.00 p.m. in the Limes, Grand Anse.
A police source told this newspaper that the victim had previously used a cutlass to hit the member of a "gang" of violent youths operating in the south of the island.
Speculation is rife that he was marked by the Gang members for revenge.
The girl friend of St. John said that he left her on Saturday night at the popular "Wall Street" hang out for young people and apparently headed for the Limes.
An eyewitness said that three young men, each brandishing cutlass in hand attacked St. John while he was inside the Dynamite Disco in the Limes.
St. John is said to have lost one hand from the initial attack and he ran out of the building, trying to escape his attackers.
He was reportedly pursued by the group as he fled the disco but his attackers soon caught up with him and delivered several brutal chops to various parts of his body,
St. John collapsed about 60 meters from the main road, where a medical team later came to check on his condition.
Within hours of the crime, police officers attached to South St. George Police Station had detained two suspects for questioning while a third went into hiding.
The police were forced to put out a media bulletin asking the public to be on the lookout for 21 year-old River Sallee resident Anderson "Wazed" Thomas who resides at the Limes in Grand Anse and was wanted for questioning in connection with the death of St. John.
The suspect surrendered to the lawmen early Tuesday.
The murder of St John has pushed the murder rate in Grenada to four for the year.
The last murder was committed on the sister isle of Carriacou in May when 58-year old David Diamond Mc Intosh was arrested and charged with the murder of 70 year old Ivan Bartholomew of Limlair.
Meanwhile, two other stabbing incidents reportedly took place over the weekend, one in Gouyave, St. John's and the other at River Road, St. George's.
The Gouyave incident resulted in one woman losing a hand.
