One lucky female Grenadian will be given the opportunity to represent the island and display her beauty, talent and intelligence at the Miss World Pageant to be held later in the  year. After more than 30 years of being out of the world-class event, the "Miss Grenada World pageant" is back. The pageant was launched on Tuesday at the Ministerial Complex.

Heading the initiative is no other than former Miss World, Grenadian born, Jennifer Hosten-Sarsfield, who has been granted the Miss Grenada World Franchise for 2007 by the Miss World Organisation. According to Hosten-Sarsfield, a total of 20 persons will be selected of which a draw-down of 10 persons will get to compete in a National contest on March 31.

The winner of that event will represent Grenada at the Miss World Pageant in November to be held in either Poland or China. Hosten-Sarsfield said it will be wonderful if Grenada could win the title again, having won the coveted crown herself in 1970.

She said that holding such a title will create many opportunities for not only the individual but the country as a whole. "It's time for another Miss World for a Grenadian", she said, adding that Grenadian women can shine and can spice-up the world.

Minister of Tourism, Culture and Civil Aviation, Senator Brenda Hood, who was on hand for the launching of the initiative said that Grenada stands to gain exposure from being represented at the pageant.

This is an opportunity, she stated for the country to showcase to the rest of the world that Grenada has rebounded stronger following the destruction of Hurricane Ivan in September 2004. The Miss Grenada World Committee comprises Bobby & Sally Ackbarali, official designers and artistes with more than 30 years in the field of beauty.

The Ministry of Tourism is the major sponsor of the event with others being Cable & Wireless, Revlon (Gittens Agencies), and Geo F Huggins & Co.

All potential candidates should be between the ages of 17 and 25, must be a Grenadian citizen that is single, never married, or given birth. Grenadians residing abroad are not exempted from applying to take part in the contest.

Interested applicants are asked to apply in writing to: Jennifer Hosten Sarsfield, PO Box 1742, Grand Anse, St George's, or on-line at www.missgrenadaworld.com
