The Rotaract Club of Grenada is celebrating 29 years of existence this year with a week of activities to commemorate the occasion.
During a press conference held Monday, President of the Club, Robbie Clarke told reporters that activities to mark the Club's anniversary actually began last Sunday and will conclude next week Sunday.
Among the activities planned include a visit to the Club's "God Children" at the Queen Elizabeth Home at Tempe, a national extravaganza that will showcase international dishes and cultures, and a church service at the Grand Anse Baptist Church.
There will also be an awards ceremony at the Grenada Boys Secondary School (GBSS) next week Sunday to recognise those persons who have made significant contributions toward the development of the Club.
According to Clarke, this event will bring the curtains down on the week of activities for the Club that is currently engaged in a battle to obtain its own independent recognition.
He said that while the Club is grateful to its parent body (Rotary Club), the activities undertaken by the Rotaract are often credited by persons who do not know the fact as work being undertaken by the Rotary Club.
The Rotaract Club of Grenada is widely regarded as youth organ of the Rotary Club of Grenada.
The Rotaract is comprised mainly of young adults ranging between the ages of 18-30.
Members often engage in voluntary projects throughout the country in an effort to bring a level of peace to the communities.
The Club is committed to the belief that hard work and dedication have its own reward.
Some of the undertakings of the Club in Grenada include the national Spelling B competition, an annual food drive, smoking awareness projects and the child of life project.
The Club was established in 1978 when editor of the Grenadian Voice newspaper, Leslie Pierre was at the helm of the Rotary Club.
Past President of the Rotary Club, and liaison between the Rotary and the Rotaract Clubs, Leo Cromwell, who was on hand for the press briefing said he is convinced that the Club is being led by young dedicated people in Grenada.
