Grenada recorded its first murder for the year on Monday evening in the south of the island.
Dead is 28 year old Nealon Bell of Frequente, St George's, a former employee of Bryden & Minors.
Bell, the son of veteran journalist and Broadcaster, Jerome Romain and Arlene Bell, was stabbed to death at approximately 5:15 p.m. in the vicinity of an area known as "The Bronx" at Frequente, St. George's.
It is alleged that his attacker jumped Bell from the back and stabbed him with a knife. He apparently died on the way to the St. George's General Hospital for medical attention.
Police have apprehended an 18-year unemployed resident of the area for questioning in connecting with the slaying. He is detained at South St. George Police Station.
The suspect has reportedly told the police investigating team that he and Bell had an altercation over the deceased's refusal to pay him for washing his car.
When approached by this newspaper for comment on the killing of her only child, the grieving mother said that she was too emotionally broken to be interviewed.
The father who is still distraught over the gruesome killing of his son told Grenada Today that the youngster was an unusual child who loved people especially the elderly, as well as young people with a deep passion.
"He's a man with a mission", quipped Jerry Romain, a former General Manager of Radio Grenada in the 1970's.
Romain believes that the death of his son was planned by "the village menace" whom he said over the years has plagued the village by always threatening to kill someone. He claimed that the police were called in several times in the past to deal with the teenager. Romain said the reason for the killing of his son still remains a mystery.
In unrelated news, police investigations are continuing into the death of Terry Mc Gillivary of the sister isle of Carriacou whose body was discovered at Paradise Beach, L'Esterre, Carriacou, with a white substance coming from his mouth and nostrils.
According to a police report, the body of Mc Gillivary was discovered by a German couple, Phillip Siemes and his wife Brite Czudnochowski, who resides at Bogles.
The police bulletin said that the couple "left their home and went to Paradise Beach to get a water taxi to go over to Sandy Island" and on reaching close to the island discovered Terry with the upper part of the body in the water.
"He (Phillip) called out to him, but got no response. He (Terry) was pulled out of the water, and First Aid was administered to him, but same proven futile", said the police report. A doctor who was called in to examine Terry pronounced him dead.
A post mortem has been ordered by the police to determine the cause of death.
