The two students whose essays were adjudged the best from Grenada in last year's FCCA Foundation for the Caribbean Essay Contest have each received a cheque for $EC534.00 from the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association.
The contest involved an invitation to students of Grenada, and other Caribbean islands, to participate in the 2006 FCCA Foundation - Children's Essay Contest.
The topic was "Why should your destination be on a cruise ships' itinerary?" Arranged in two categories; a junior division for children ages 12 and under and a senior division for children ages 13 -16 years, all schools were invited to submit entries.
A total of seventeen (17) essays were received from students from the St.
Andrew's R.C. School, St. Andrew's Methodist School, Grenada Seventh Day Adventist Comprehensive School, Kay Dees School and Beacon High school in Belmont, St. George.
Submissions were also made by the St. Mark Secondary School, Grenada Boys Secondary School and St. Andrew Anglican Secondary School.
The 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners from each category were promised US $2,500, $1,500 and $1,000, respectively.

As it turns out, the entries from Grenada were not adjudged winners within the region.
However, the two local winners recently visited the Grenada Board of Tourism to receive their consolation prizes of $EC $534.00.
In the 2004 essay competition, which was based on the topic: "How has the Cruise Industry and or Cruise passengers impacted my country?" two Grenadians Ellis Horsford and Beverley Joseph were among the top winners in the Caribbean.
