Ambassador to the United Nations, Ruth Rouse is due back home shortly to take up a post most likely as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health and the Environment.
Informed sources told GRENADA TODAY that Rouse has already received her letter of transfer from the Public Service Commission (PSC) headed by retired high court judge, Justice Monica Joseph.
According to a well-placed source, Rouse is tipped to take over from Gemma Bain who is currently on approximately 84 days leave from the service.
A source who asked not to be named said that Rouse could be back on duty in Grenada as early as the middle of the month.
In recent weeks, the Department of Human Resources (DHP) within the Office of the Prime Minister has been engaged in lengthy discussion on finding a suitable place within the service for Rouse who has been called back to St. George’s by the Keith Mitchell-led New National Party (NNP) government.
The source said that the department spent a considerable lengthy of time looking at different options in order to come up with a suitable job for Ambassador Rouse.
“The problem is that they (DHR) cannot create a new position in the service for Rouse. They had to look at what is available and see how they could come up with something that falls within her (salary) scale in the service”, he remarked.
No official reason has been given by the Mitchell government for recalling Rouse from her prestigious position.
Businessman, Dr. Angus Friday is considered as the front-runner to replace Rouse at the United Nations.
Meanwhile, senior trade officer Oliver Joseph has been promoted to the post of Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs to replace Arlene Buckmire-Outram who has been sent to the Ministry of Tourism & Civil Aviation.
