Mista Killa

Grenada's reigning Groovy Monarch and Soca Monarch, Hollis "Mr. Killa" Mapp on Monday officially launched the video for his big hit, Spice Isle Rock.

The video was launched at Excel Plaza's Movie Palace and  provided the audience in attendance with sneak peeks of some of what Grenada has to offer as a tourist destination.

The private launch which was sponsored by Excel Plaza and saw the inaugural viewing of the Spice Isle Rock music video in front of sponsors, representatives from the different key government institutions, organisations and family members.

This is the first in a series of planned video launches, one of which involves the sister isle of Carriacou on February 6. According to one of the persons associated with Mr. Killa, Reece Sam, "the concept of the video was developed with the idea of launching Hollis Mapp as not just an artist but rather, a Grenadian artist".

"....With that in mind, the song Spice Isle Rock was strategically chosen to do just that. The song allowed for a sneak view of the Isle of Spice through the eyes of the artist while showcasing his talents and personality", she added.

Gill Management Consultancy Incorporated, operated by local attorney-at law, Senator Arley Gill is responsible for the management of Mr. Killa. In an address at the launch, Sen. Gill stressed that "more sustainable avenues need to be created for such persons involved in the artform to be used positively and supported financially".

"I am appealing to all concerned in the areas of Youth Development, Culture and Tourism, other corporate citizens and caring individuals to lend their support towards the development of our natural talents, which will help in keeping our young people positive and focused, as they represent Grenada's future", he remarked.

Also present at the launch was Minister of Culture, Sen. Brenda Hood, who said it was a good start and that it is "wonderful that we can do something like this in Grenada". Mr. Killa expressed his heartfelt gratification to the audience for sharing in the momentous occasion with him the launch of his first music video.

"I very grateful for all the assistance that I got on this project, and for the opportunities provided towards fulfilling my dreams", he said. "All I dream of is to be known as the artist that helped to lift the name of Gouyave, St. John's and Grenada to the world at large, and to be known as one of the greatest artists from the Caribbean", he added.
Copies of the Spice Isle Rock music video can be obtained from the management team.

Work has already started on filming of the artist's second video project for the song Mirror, Mirror which is scheduled for the end of February.

Mr. Killa will be participating in Trinidad Soca Monarch semi-finals singing another one of his hits on Sunday, "Balance".
