Jacqui Pascall awards Carib Cup to winner Champie Evans |
The 5th Annual Grenada Round-the-Island Easter Regatta was completed over the holiday period in the Spice Isle.
A total of fifteen yachts registered for the Round-the-Island race on Easter Saturday to challenge the record held by Huff N Puff of 5 hours 50 minutes.
Local boy, Champie Evans on Julia set a new record for the fastest mono hull, with the actual time around the island being 6.03.49 and corrected to 5.32.25.
Easter Saturday was day also set aside for the Port Louis Junior Challenge Race off the Prickly Bay Beach and saw participation from 22 junior sailors.
In the Laser Class, Nick Goodchild came in first, while the Optimist Class was taken by Kendall Martin and the Mosquito Class was won by Kimo Sampson.
The Sunday saw the Budget Marine South Coast race 4 & 5, off the south coast to decide the overall placing for each class.
Morning Tide came in first in both races and secured the overall winners place in the cruising class for the race series.
On Good Friday itself, there was a race off the south coast of Grenada which was sponsored by Prickly Bay Marina.
The first prize was taken by Blew by You, followed by Morning Tide while Aquillo came in third.
Director of Tourism, Joycelyn Sylvester Gairy along with Peggy Cattan, Race Coordinator and Jacqui Pascall, Event Coordinator officiated at the prize giving ceremony for the races that were held over the Easter holiday.
