Speculation
is rife that Grenada¹s female Ambassador to the United
Nations, Ruth Rouse is being recalled home to work in St. George¹s.
According
to a well-placed source, Rouse was informed of the move during
a recent trip home on holiday. No reason was given for the decision
of the Keith Mitchell-led government to recall the female ambassador.
However,
speculation is rife that the ruling New National Party (NNP)
government might be looking for a more politically inclined
and motivated person to head the New York Mission with general
elections two years away. There have also been unconfirmed reports
that relations are less than warm between Ambassador Rouse and
one of the key NNP operatives inside the mission, Allen Mc Guire.
It is not
clear how soon Ambassador Rouse might be returning home and
about her new assignment. The post of Chief of Protocol is known
to be vacant since the last holder Ann-Marie Marryshow was transferred
to another position within the public service
Ambassador
Rouse gained rapid promotion within the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs since the advent of the Mitchell government in office
in mid-1995. She often travelled with the Grenadian leader on
several overseas trips before he posted her to London as the
Island¹s High Commissioner.
She was
sent to replace Marcelle Gairy who quit the post and later accused
Prime Minister Mitchell of entering into a controversial 100
million U.S "promissory notes" with some shady characters
in Europe. Rouse in known to have accompanied Prime Minister
Mitchell on a trip to several European capitals in the late
1990¹s on the private jet that was put at his disposal
by the controversial Viktor Kozeny known internationally as
"The Pirate of Prague".
Kozeny,
now facing extradition proceedings from the Bahamas to the U.S
on fraud charges, had managed to land a post as Ambassador-at-large
for the Spice Isle. Ambassador Rouse is a career diplomat with
over 20 years experience in the public service of Grenada.
