Evidence
is emerging that the Keith Mitchell-led New National Party (NNP)
government is not speaking the truth about the Cement issue involving
Dream Builders.
Government is denying claims made by the main opposition National
Democratic Congress (NDC) that it was involved in the deal.

On
Monday night, Finance Minister Anthony Boatswain attempted to
set the record straight by pointing out that it was the state-run
Gravel and Concrete Corporation that was attempting to help the
private investors sell the cement and not the State.
Boatswain sought to assure the nation that not one single cent
from the Treasury would be used in the deal. However, this newspaper
was able to obtain a confidential government document which indicated
that the Cabinet of Ministers agreed at a meeting held August
18 "for the Government of Grenada to purchase from Dream
Builders International (Grenada) Limited 2209 slings of cement".
The directive from the Mitchell government stipulated that "all
statutory bodies and publicly financed projects should purchase
cement solely from this Government-owned stock until the supply
is exhausted".
