The following bulletin was sent out by the Grenada Cocoa Association on its inability to pay workers their salaries for the past two months:
The Board of Directors of Grenada Cocoa Association wishes to advise both monthly and daily paid staff that we are in dire financial strain now and therefore unable to pay you salaries/wages for the months of September and October 2006.
We apologize for this late advice but we are making every effort to secure funding to meet our obligations to each one of you.
We understand the hardship caused and we commiserate with you. If we can be of any help to you, please advise Head Office.
On several occasions during the last few months, we had hoped that we would have source funding to pay you but we were disappointed.
We have now made a decision to seek a loan to meet our obligations. In addition, we have asked the government to reconsider their refusal to fund.
In the meantime, we will write the institutions to which you have commitments and will urge them to forego any drastic measures.
We hope this will ease your frustration and stress.
Sincerely,
Dr. Reginald Buckmire
Chairman
