The local producer of the Nut-Med pain relieving spray has added a new product to its line of local remedies.
Noelville Ltd on Monday launched Nut Med pain relieving cream during a ceremony held at the Grenada Board of Tourism (GBT) on the Carenage.
The product, retailing for $15.00, is aimed at giving persons relief from arthritis pain, inflammation of joints, muscular aches, back pains and cramps.
In addressing those in attendance, Manager of Noelville Ltd, Denis Noel said that he had always been keen to ensure that what is grown on the island could be put into finished products.
He said that over the years the norm throughout the Caribbean has been to export the raw material produced in the area and then seen them come back into the region as manufactured products.
According to Noel, at the conclusion of a conference among the Caribbean Association of Researchers and Herbal Practitioners and the Caribbean Herbal Business Association held in St Lucia in June on Medicinal herbs in the Caribbean, it was felt that a herbal industry could play a significant role in the socio-economic development of the region.

He stated that with the difficulties facing most Caribbean economies in light of the impending WTO and EU regulations, especially related to sugar and banana, a herbal sub-sector if pursued through proper planning can contribute significantly in developing Caribbean economies and at the same time bring benefits to the health and well-being of the majority of Caribbean people.
He said that when one considers the natural herbal remedies that lie within the bio-diversity of the abundant flora that exists throughout the region - Caribbean people are sitting on a “gold mine” without realising it.
Noel said that too long natural remedies towards better health care have been suppressed by conventional medicine, the cost of which in most instances are beyond the reach of the majority of people in the Caribbean. He said that several natural remedies to basic health problems which have been handed down by “our fore-fathers” are not being used simply because research has not been carried out on them.
He said that he is trying to get the powers-that-be locally, regionally and in the developing world to look seriously at the benefits of natural remedies. Noel said that while he accepts that modern medicine and conventional medicine have made tremendous strides in their research and development, unfortunately it does not reach to 80% of the world’s population. He stressed that only 20% of mankind can really afford to purchase pharmaceutical products to assist them in their health and well-being.
He pointed out that the solution to cancers, kidney problems, asthma, high cholesterol and HIV/AIDS could very well be found within herbs grown throughout the region.
Noel is also a producer and exporter of local cut flowers and is also closely associated with the Chelsea Flower show which has earned Grenada several gold medals and more recently a silver gilt.
Products produced by Noelville LTD include Noni juice which is recommended for all medical complaints and herbal tea. Noelville LTD has already started work on another product geared specially for men to enhance their sexual potential.
