The International Cricket Council (ICC) has given Grenada a preliminary thumbs up rating in relations to the country's preparedness for Cricket World Cup 2007.
ICC officials toured the National Stadium and other key facilities last week Friday.
The ICC team included its Chief Executive Officer, Chris Dehring, and the Venue Development Director, Don Lockerbie.
The team began the day's activities by outlining the plans and the process of inspection and then toured the entire stadium facility including the media and players facility, the pitch and field where a few overs were bowled by a local cricket team.
The two practice venues were also tested by the ICC agronomy team, the air conditioning installation, sewer, electrical and telephone systems were all tested.
At the end of the inspection, Lockerbie indicated that the ICC team was surprised with the level of work being done, but noted that there is still much more to be done.
He encouraged the Local Organising Committee (LOC) and others involved with the preparations for the games to pat themselves on the back then move straight back to work.
Lockerbie said that there's much work to be done on the external aspect of the stadium, for the ICC has a stipulated timeline to get external work done in time for matches in April.
With this in mind, the ICC gave Grenada until February 19 to ensure that this is done, and the stadium should be completed fully by then.
Dehring indicated that Grenada's stadium is a model for the Caribbean and the resilience of Caribbean people and how they can rebuild after a two hurricanes.
He also made an appeal to Grenadians not to concentrate on the negatives thoughts of Cricket World Cup and think of the positive aspects and the many benefits to be derived from it.
The ICC officials also indicated that Grenada is ahead of other venues with regards to the technology being installed and functional such as the main scoreboard.
The PA systems and all other audio devices are properly installed and working.
The ICC team expects to complete its three-week tour of the region by a visit to St Kitts on December 1.
After that Grenada and all host countries will get a full report on the progress made thus far, as they continue to prepare to host the Cricket World Cup matches.
