EVERYBODY LOOKING FOR SOMETHING - CD NOW AVAILABLE

Grenadians are now exposed to more of China's culture and way of living thanks to the launch of a new television channel. CCTV-9, an English-language 24 hour channel was added to Cablevision's package and is now aired on Channel 79.

The new channel was launched last week Tuesday at the Grenada Cablevision headquarters at Dusty Highway, Grand Anse, St George's. Programmes of CCTV-9 include the introduction of history, culture, economic development, customs, landscape and people of China, China events and world events.
Resident Ambassador Qian Hongshan of the People's Republic of China (PRC) said that the launch of China Central Television 9 (CCTV-9) demonstrates that the people of China and Grenada have taken a big step forward in the areas of mutual understanding.

He said that with CCTV-9, Grenadians are now able to enter China without leaving their homes. The Ambassador said the launch of this new channel and the airing of its programmes in the Spice Isle would help more Grenadians to impove their knowledge about China.

In addition it will act as a bridge to bring the two countries even closer together, as well as deepen the understanding and friendship between two peoples. Ambassador Hongshan noted that since the resumption of diplomatic relations between the two countries, both Grenada and China have had excellent cooperation in the fields of politics, economy, trade, culture, tourism, education and military matters.

CableVision has been carrying CCTV-9 for the past year free of cost for the Chinese engineers and other construction workers from the Fair-east involved in the rebuilding of the national stadium at Queen¹s Park. The Chinese envoy expressed a heartfelt thanks to the local network for its fine gesnture on behalf of the 600 Chinese living in Grenada.

Cablevision's Managing Director, Hugh Dolland said that the launch of CCTV-9 takes the relationship between Grenada and China one step further. Dolland thanked Ambassador Hongshan and his government for the outstanding support they have given so far and continue to give to the people of Grenada.

He felt that the launch of CCTV-9 will enable viewers to cross new frontiers, as well as enjoy and witness the rich and diverse culture of the Chinese people, as well as helping to inform them about major events in China and throughout the world.

He also pointed to a particular  programme on the channel which will help viewers to learn the Chinese language.
