The Keith
Mitchell-led New National Party (NNP) government is making moves
to ditch another long-standing civil servant.
Informed
sources told GRENADA TODAY that Rita Joseph who is attached
to the Department of Human Resources in the Office of the Prime
Minister is the latest person being targeted for removal from
the service after over 20 years of service.
According
to a well-placed source, Joseph has received a letter from her
Permanent Secretary, Beryl Isaac informing her that her post
is being made redundant due to a re-organisation of the public
service.
He said that the letter gave the embattled senior civil servant
about one week to challenge the move to make her redundant.
The source
who spoke on condition that he was not named pointed out that
Joseph was probably singled out for "special treatment"
due to allegation made that she was suspected of leaking confidential
government information to the Public Workers Union (PWU).
The senior
civil servant has reportedly retained the services of former
Attorney-General Dr. Francis Alexis to look after her interest
in the matter. A few months ago, the Mitchell government moved
against two senior members of the Royal Grenada Police Force
(RGPF).
Assistant
Commissioner of Police, Willan Thompson was reassigned to the
National Agency for Disaster Management (NaDMA) while Assistant
Commissioner of Police (ACP), Maurice Darius accepted the retirement
package. Darius is currently employed at the american-run, St.
George¹s University.
