The
Cuban Male Nurse (at the back) as he emerged from CID Office
Monday after Police questioned him on allegations of sexual
molestation at the St. George¹s General Hospital.
A St. David¹s mother of two embroiled in the sexual molestation
accusation against a Cuban male nurse on the island would like
the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) to thoroughly investigate
the matter and take the appropriate action.
The young
lady confirmed this to GRENADA TODAY on Tuesday in the presence
of her attorney-at-law, Derek Sylvester and her male companion.
She told this newspaper that she had instructed Sylvester to
convey her position on the issue to the relevant persons handling
the investigation within the police force.
Officers
of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) spent nearly
three hours Monday interviewing the Cuban male nurse at their
head office on Hillsborough Street, St. George¹s.He
was accompanied by another male and two female persons, believed
to be Cubans.
The woman
complained a week ago to the police that the Cuban placed his
mouth on her private parts while helping to prepare her for
surgery at the hospital. The young lady took strong offense
to those who are alleging that she had made up the story in
order to try and extort money out of the Cuban.
She
did not rule out taking a lie-detector test if the Cuban male
nurse was also prepared to take one in order to get at the truth
of the matter. Her boyfriend who also spoke to this newspaper
lashed out at statements made about the incident by Health Minister
Ann David Antoine.
He said
the minister was sending out the wrong message by implying that
the matter should be treated more sensitive in light of the
amount of assistance given to the island by Cuba¹s Fidel
Castro.
³She
(my girl friend) needs respect. People like him (the Cuban Male
Nurse) are not needed in Grenada², he remarked. According
to the boy friend, Minister David-Antoine was seemingly suggesting
that Grenadian women can be used ³as prostitutes because
they (government) are getting help².
³It
(the statement) makes me more upset than before², he added.
³She (the young mother) is somebody and I would stand up
for her. No matter what I have to do, I would stand up for her.
I want them (government) to know that she is not a dog and nobody
will run over her. You better believe that², he said.
The boyfriend
felt that the Keith Mitchell-led government was engaging in
double standard on the issue. ³If it was a poor Grenadian
man who did it (sexual molestation), they would have crucified
him², said the boy friend who has two young ones with his
girlfriend.
Meanwhile,
well-placed sources told this newspaper that a senior government
official called CID giving instructions to the effect that the
Cuban suspect should not be prosecuted by the police over the
allegation made against him.
When questioned
Tuesday by local journalists, Jamaican-born Legal Advisor to
Cabinet, Hugh Wildman denied that he had made any such call
to the police. Wildman said that he is not fully aware of the
incident and is not involved in the matter whatsoever.
On completion
of their investigations, the police are expected to submit the
case file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for further
instructions on the matter.
