The
close family members and friends of 19-year old Nefertiti Simpson
of Westerhall, St David"s, have been plunged into mourning
as a result of her alleged suicide on Monday.
A student of St George"s University, Nefertiti was discovered
hanging by her neck in the walkway at the back of the family home
with a piece of telephone wire.
Police officials have confirmed that they recovered three suicidal
notes hinting about the young girl"s frustration with life.
Since the news of the tragic loss of Nefertiti, a number of her
friends have described her as a very jolly, fun-loving individual.
Many of them expressed grave sadness and disappointment over her
death.
Nefertiti was a graduate of St. Joseph"s Convent, St George"s
in 2003 and a 1st year student at SGU. Speculation is rife that
the young lady was going through very tough times since the divorce
of her parents. One of her former classmates who wished not to
be named recalled, "she (Nefertiti) was so crazy with herself,
she never cared who you was, she will do anything just to make
you laugh".
"I
remember one day we didn"t know each other as yet, and I
was talking with my friends and she just came out of nowhere and
jumped in the middle of us and shouted aye", said the youngster.
Another person with whom she used to socialise described the deceased,
as "such a happy, jovial, open"minded person. "It
hurts me deeply to see my friend leave this world in such a painful
manner. Words cannot express the emptiness I feel now that she"s
gone," he said.
A post mortem was expected to be conducted on the body on Wednesday
to determine to exact cause of death. Nefertiti"s mother
is well known Nutrition Educator at the Grenada Food and Nutrition
Council, Stephanie Simpson.
Her father is Walter Simpson who now lives in Atlanta in the United
States. Prior to leaving Grenada, the Trinidad and Tobago-born
Walter operated a photo studio on St. John"s Street in St.
George"s.
