The
man considered to be on the of the biggest drug dealers in the
south of the island has been nabbed by police.
31-year
old Shankiel "Riley" Myland of Woburn, St. George"s was among
three persons arrested and charged by the Royal Grenada Police
Force (RGPF) with possession of a controlled drug, trafficking
of a controlled drug and handling of a controlled drug.
The trio
were picked up on Monday by police following a raid at Riley"s
home in which the lawmen allegedly found one kilo of cocaine
that was being prepared for shipment overseas.
Also arrested
were Riley"s girlfriend, 27-year old Dessa Gibbs who is
from St. David"s and 40-year old Hoyte Oliverre of La Borie,
St Paul"s in connection with the alleged crime.
Riley,
Oliverre and Gibbs made their first court appearance Wednesday
before Chief Magistrate Patricia Mark and were placed on $300,000.00
bail with two sureties each for the cocaine charge. Police sources
told GRENADA TODAY that the confiscated kilo of cocaine has
a street value of approximately EC$200,000.000.
According
to police insiders, the raiding party was led by Sergeant Kenny
Smart and Sgt Alexander and backed by officers attached to the
Drug Squad and other law enforcement personnel. The source said
that the crackdown came after intense investigations by the
lawmen into the activities of Riley who has a previous drug
conviction.
The police
swooped down on the "South Don Man" at his newly built
multi-million dollar home in Woburn where both he and Oliverre
were allegedly found cutting up the cocaine to prepare it for
export to the United States.
It is not
clear if Riley's girlfriend was also participating in the activities
but she was also taken in by the police. As a result of the
arrest of Oliverre, the lawmen conducted a search at his home
at La Borie where a 9mm, .32 and .22 Ammunition were discovered
along with some Winchester riffle rounds and fire crackers.
The suspect was also charged with illegal possession of arms
and ammunition.
During
the search, one of his brothers, Arthur Oliverre was reportedly
found with a 9mm piston in his possession. He was formally charged
for the offense and appeared in court on Monday where he was
placed on bail in connection with the illegal possession of
arms and ammunition.
Both Oliverre
brothers were placed on bail by the Magistrate in the sum of
$15, 000.00 each with two sureties on the arms and ammunition
charges.
