A resident
of the sister isle of Carriacou is the latest Super Six jackpot
winner of the money games run by the state-controlled Grenada
National Lottery Authority (GNLA).
He is Eluthan
Noel of Mt Pleasant, Carriacou - the second Super Six jackpot
winner since the game started in June 2005. Noel received his
cheque for $335,000.00 during a presentation ceremony held at
the NLA’s office last week Thursday.
Newly appointed
Minister of Sports, Roland Bhola made the presentation to the
winner. In making reference to Noel’s winning, Minister
Bhola said that this is a demonstration of what can happen to
any national if they support the game.
The senior
government minister said that by locals supporting NLA games,
it takes them further than just winning but also enables young
budding athletes to receive equipment and funding.
According
to Bhola, the NLA to date has spent $392,000,00 to assist athletes
on scholarships in foreign countries. Bhola is urging all Grenadians
to support the game and by extension sports, culture and nation
building.
The winner
came to collect the cheque along with his cousin, Clarissa Noel
also of Carriacou who was responsible for purchasing the winning
ticket for him. Noel said that he is a regular customer, spending
$30 per week on tickets.
He said that
he has not yet decided how to spend the money and intends to put
it away in the bank. The very calm looking Noel stated that he
was not really very excited when he realised that he won since
he always expected to win on day.
General Manager
of GNLA, Cheri Stephen-Cromwell welcomed the newly appointed minister
into the Lotto family and told him that she hoped he brought with
him new ideas to find more innovative ways to further assist in
developing the game. She also extended congratulations to the
winner of the Super Six Jackpot.
