Government
has announced a new leadership structure to manage and direct
the affairs of the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF). The announcement
was made last week Friday by Minister of National Security, Senator
Einstein Louison during RGPF’s 2006 Passing Out Parade held
at the Tanteen Netball Court in St. George’s.
Sen. Louison
stated that Acting Commissioner of Police, Winston James is now
officially the Commissioner of Police, replacing Fitzroy Bedeau
who was forced out of the job following the police’s dismal
showing in September 2004 at the passage of Hurricane Ivan.
The government
minister also announced the appointments of two Deputy Commissioners
and two Assistant Commissioners. Acting Assistant Commissioner
of Police, Raymond Charles has been appointed to the Office of
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) and Acting Deputy Commissioner.
Superintendents
Dowlyn Barthlomew and Smith Roberts have been promoted to the
Offices of Acting Assistant Commissioners of Police. According
to Sen. Louison, the Public Service Commission (PSC) approved
the new appointments after lengthy consultation and scrutiny.
He noted
that the promoted officers share more then 100 years of solid
policing experience, and are now charged with the responsibility
to provide the guidance and management needed in the force at
this time.
