The
Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) has brought criminal charges against
one of its senior officers for alleged wrong-doing in connection
with the falsification of the true ownership of a vehicle.
A police official identified the officer as Inspector Wayne Wilson
who is attached to the Police Radio Room at headquarters on Fort
George (Rupert). According to the official, Insp. Wilson was formally
charged Wednesday by members of the Criminal Investigation Department
(CID) acting on instructions from the island’s Chief Cop,
Winston James.
He was slapped with two charges - one of forgery and the other of
uttering a forged document arising from an incident which occurred
in 2004. Insp. Wilson is accused of forging the signature of a civilian
at the Licensing Department in order to try and take illegal possession
of a van.
He said that Wilson who is from the village of Red Mud in St. Patrick’s
was granted bail in the sum of $10, 000 and is due to make his first
court appearance in April. In recent months, no less than three
police officers have been charged with committing criminal offences.
One is Corporal Frederick “Balla” Noel, a key bodyguard
in the Security Detail around Prime Minister and Minister of National
Security, Dr. Keith Mitchell. Balla has been charged in connection
with the shooting of a civilian in the hand over a lover’s
quarrel in the Bocas, St. Paul’s.
The
other charged police officers are Corporal Joel Horsford for allegedly
stealing almost one million dollars by reason of employment, and
Constable Joseph Tillock, in connection with breaking into the locker
of another police officer and stealing his service weapon.
