Member of Parliament for the rural St. Andrew South-east seat, Kenrick Fullerton wants police officers in Grenville return to their original building in the town.
Following is the text of a letter which Fullerton wrote on May 31, to one of the Ministers of National Security on the issue:

Senator Einstein Louison
Minister of National Security
Ministerial Complex
Botanical Gardens
St. George¹s

Dear Sir,

I am writing as Parliamentary Representative for the constituency of St. Andrew¹s South East regarding the state of the Grenville Police Station.

I wish to first thank you for making the necessary arrangements to house officers of that station at another location. However, their removal from the town has created a void of safety and security for businesses in the town.

Hon Ken Fullerton

The officers have been making the extra effort in patrolling the town during the night and I thank them for their effort. I also empathize with the Commissioner of Police and his staff for working under these conditions. Their work, especially during Hurricane Emily, was remarkable.

As you will obviously know, the permanent presence of a base in the town is a deterrent to crime, including burglary, vandalism, and other criminal activity etc. Their absence has created a level of anxiety, which concerns the business owners in the town. This also leaves them venerable to potential criminals.

Since the passage of both Hurricanes Ivan and Emily, the building that originally housed these officers has been practically abandoned. The roof was repaired but the internal walls and floors are in a deplorable condition.

This building has a very rich history both in appearance and usage. The Fire Department of the Grenville Police Station still utilises a section of the building. However, the maintenance of its historic nature must be considered when work resumes there.

I am requesting that the building be properly repaired and that the officers return to their previous location. There must be a permanent presence of officers in towns where business and financial institutions operate on a continuous basis.

I am lending my assistance in ensuring this problem is solved.

With warmest regards.

Kenrick Fullerton
Parliamentary Representative,
St. Andrew¹s South East
