Another
Police Officer has found himself on the wrong side of the law
in connection with illegal possession of cocaine. He
is 50-year old Gregory Lette, attached to the St Paul¹s
Police Station.
Lette was
one of four persons arrested following weeks of extensive investigation
into a reported quantity of drugs that is believed to have washed
ashore in the St David¹s area.
The other
persons charged in connection with the offence are 47-year old
Krishna Jaggarnaught, a baker by profession, 22-year old Construction
worker, Aaron Samuel, and Cecil Joseph, a 42-year old businessman
of Petite Bacaye, St David¹s.
Jaggarnaught,
Samuel and Lette are residents of Dudmar, St David¹s. All
four suspects have been charged with the offence of Possession
of a Controlled Drug, Trafficking of a Controlled Drug, Handling
of a Controlled Drug and Money Laundering.
Police
officials have said that the lawmen have recovered 6 lbs 14
ozs of cocaine on some lands belonging to Lette. The drugs have
a street value of $312,000.00.
Jaggarnaught
told GRENADA TODAY that they had discovered some 25 kilos of
cocaine last month and he reported the matter to the Drug Squad
Unit of the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF). He said that
a party of twelve police officers including one female later
visited him and demanded that he hand over the drugs.
He said that he told them that he did not have any but they
refused to believe him.
According
to the suspect, the officers took him away from his home to
the Bacolet Beach and reigned blows on him. He reportedly suffered
serious injuries to both feet causing him to depend on crutches
to move around.
Well-placed
sources told this newspaper that greed for money among the men
resulted in the police apprehending them.
A source
close to the Drug World hinted that the drugs might have been
deposited in the area by Venezuelans who are major players in
the illegal drug trade in the Eastern Caribbean.
