Nigel Abraham

Another murder has gripped the tri-island state of Grenada pushing the murder total for the year to six.

Officers attached to the Criminal Investigations Department on Monday arrested and charged 40-year old Nigel Abraham, a school teacher, for the murder of his wife Bernadette Abraham both of Morne Delice, St Paul's.

The teacher made his first Court appearance before Chief Magistrate Patricia Mark on Tuesday amidst a crowd of curious on-lookers who gathered to get a first hand look at the man charged with Murder.

He is being represented by Attorney-At-Law Derek Sylvester, who told the court that he will like for the matter to be dealt with expeditiously. The body of 36-year old Bernadette was discovered by a neighbour at her home on June 23. She was a teacher at the St Paul's Government School.

Her husband, Nigel, was formally charged after extensive investigations by members of the CID and findings of forensic experts flown into Grenada. According to reports Mrs Abraham died as a result of manual strangulation.

Nigel has been a teacher at St George's Anglican Jr School but recently joined the staff at Wesley College Secondary School teaching Social Studies. Mrs Abraham was laid to rest last week Friday, one day before her husband was picked up by local police officers and interrogated.

Unconfirmed reports are that Nigel allegedly told someone that his wife reported that she was not feeling well and had told him that she was going to see a doctor. It is said that he went to work and called back home to check on his wife but there was no response to his phone calls. Reports indicate that he called a neighbour and asked the individual to go check on his wife, only to find out that she was dead.

It was also reported that when the couple's two children wanted to bid goodbye to their mother they were stopped by their father who told them to leave their mother alone since she wasn't feeling well. Public Prosecutor, Christopher Nelson is appearing on behalf of the Commissioner of Police.

Nigel has been remanded at the Richmond Hill Prison and is set to return to court on the 20th of this month.
