The Japanese Government has approved funding for four more schools in Grenada under its Grant Assistance for Grass- Roots Human Security Projects (GGP), to support the rehabilitation effort post Hurricanes Ivan and Emily. The GGP provides up to $100,000.00 US non-refundable financial assistance to NGO’s, hospitals, schools, and other non-profit associations to help implement their development projects. The availability of GGP funding in each eligible country provides Japanese Overseas Development Aid (ODA) with a new means of cooperation that has a direct impact on the well being of grass-roots communities. A formal collective signing ceremony is scheduled to take place on February 6 between the Ambassador of Japan, Shigenobu Kato, and the respective principals of the four schools, in the presence of the Minister of Education and Labour, Claris Charles. The four schools, namely, Presentation Brothers College, Boca Secondary School, Anglican High School, and Grenada Boys Secondary School are just the third group from among many other schools in Grenada which have been earmarked to receive Grant Aid from the Government of Japan, under its scheme, Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects. Schools that have already benefitted from the Grass- Roots initiative are as follows: Wesley College, Happy Hill Secondary School,St. David’s Catholic Secondary School, St. Joseph’s Convent (St. George), St. Rose Modern Secondary School, and Mac Donald College. The list is completed by St. Mary’s Junior School, St. John’s Christian Secondary School, Hillsborough Secondary School, T.A. Marryshow Community College (TAMCC), Grenville Secondary School and St. Mark’s Secondary.
