It was a week of sadness for one family in the small village of La Poterie, St. Andrew’s. The body of 17 year old Skitta Edgar was discovered in her home covered in blood on Monday and a minutes later fire gutted a small house owned by her older cousin. She had multiple stab wounds around her throat. According to reports, the body of Skitta was discovered by her 12 year old brother Neil Edgar, a student of Tivoli RC School who had just returned from school and tried to enter the house to change his clothes. When he realised that the house was locked and no one had answered his calls, Neil who knew that his sister was inside, got a hammer and proceeded to try and force his way into the house by breaking a window. Upon entry, the youngster reportedly saw the body of his sister lying on the floor in a pool of blood. As reality hit, Neil started to scream and his voice alerted neighbours who rushed to the scene and started to question him, only to find out that his sister was lying dead on the floor. GRENADA TODAY was told by neighbours and family members of Skitta that she was a very humble, intelligent and outgoing person. The deceased is a former student of St Joseph’s Convent, Grenville and at the time of her death was unemployed. Mother of the deceased, Patsy Edgar who was sobbing and full of tears told this newspaper that she just cannot understand who would have done this to her multi-talented, intelligent daughter. Skitta was the first of her four children. The mother broke down as she tried to describe the goodness of her daughter. She said that the daughter liked modelling and had participated in a number of modelling shows including the recent Best Village Competition in the area in which she placed third. “I don’t know, I just don’t know. Just how I left her is so I came back and meet her clothed in a vest and a panty, but dead”, the grieving mother recalled. Skitta was also described as a young lady who had a strong belief in Christ. There are reports that the murdered teenager read one of the scriptures during church service last week Sunday. A source told this newspaper that apart from the stab wounds, it appears that an object, suspected to be that of a broom was inserted into her private part by her attackers. Speculation is rife that the gruesome killing of Skitta was done by someone in the neighbourhood. Police investigators have picked up three suspects for questioning in the murder. This is the second family from the St Andrew’s parish to moan the loss of loved ones in tragic circumstances within the past three weeks. 36-year old John Joseph of Tivoli was shot in the chest and killed when armed robbers attempted to stage a hold up at the Tivoli Gas Station where he was an employee. The news of the teenager’s untimely death was not the only pain felt by the same family in La Poterie. It was double tragedy for 28 year old Kathy-Ann Charles, cousin of the deceased. While trying to come to terms with the shocking news of Skitta’s killing, the cousin’s home which is located close by went up in flames. The fire was allegedly started by a 6 year old who was playing with matches. The youngster was seen lighting a number of matches and dropping them on the floor. One of the matches fell on a mattress, and in a short space of time the entire wooden house was quickly engulfed in flames. When the fire was detected by neighbours, the 6 year old was said to be still inside the house trying to put out the flames. It was reported that a neighbour had to rush to rescue him from the burning house. Police are said to be investigating the cause of the fire.
