Supporters of the imprisoned leaders of “Scare Dem” Crew, Joie-T Thomas and his brother Junior “Yellows” Thomas are preparing for their return to civilian life early next month after a seven year jail term at the Richmond Hill prison.

The two are due to be released on February 7 and their supporters are planning a big musical show, dubbed, “Freedom Fest The return of Scare Dem Sound Selector Joie T”.at the Quarantine Point at Morne Rouge to welcome them back.

The Thomas brothers from Morne Jaloux, St. George’s were sent to prison after a high court trial in which they were found guilty of committing Dangerous Harm to 26 year old Dexter Charles of St. John’s Street, St George’s.

Charles, a stevedore on the St. George’s Port, was badly beaten by a gang led by the Thomas brothers following a dispute between Dexter and Joie-T over a female living in the United States.

The dock worker was reportedly snatched by the gang near to the St. George’s Market and dumped into a car, taken to the Fort Jeudy area, beaten with a plank of wood, slashed on the face and taken back to St. John’s Street and thrown out of the vehicle.

Three others — Garth Scott, Joel Mitchell and Neron Morain — who were charged with the Thomas’ brothers for the brutal mauling of Charles were released on a three-year probation. Well-placed sources told this newspaper that the Fest is said to be Joie T’s idea.

It will feature Metromedia with Sky Juice & Scratchie, Katarock with Quincy & Famous, Skipper Soundstation; Blackstorm, as well as Bain Junior. There will also be Live performances from Full Moon Entertainment, featuring “Lava Man, Bone-nilus & Simma” and Ranking Sterlin.

According to the source, the Sound System will be provided by Waggy T and the MC’s for the night will be Mitch and Marvin Ranks.
A close friend of Joie T and a member of Scare Dem Sounds and Scare Dem World, Mervin “Squrro” James pointed out that the supporters of the imprisoned Gang members have welcomed the Fest and already there is a rush for tickets to attend the planned show.

James said that since Joie T’s imprisonment a lot of people have stopped going to dance-hall parties. “He (Joie T) is the number 1 DJ in Grenada (and) we want everyone to come out and support one of the island’s biggest dance,” he remarked.
